i’m reading this book called the voice of matthew: the gospel according to matthew, retold by lauren winner. it’s part of a project called the voice to retell the scriptures in the words of artists. i picked it up last spring when it came out, but i’ve been slowly reading through it this summer, partly because bsf is doing matthew this fall. i’m starting to get ready. cold colorado mornings are making me very excited for fall, a season i had been completely dreading due to the other changes it would be bringing into my life.
today i read this portion from matthew 7 that i really loved.
all who ask receive. those who seek, find what they seek. and he who knocks, will have the door opened.
think of it this way: if your son asked you for bread, would you give him a stone? of course not-you would give him a loaf of bread. if your son asked for a fish, would you give him a snake? no, to be sure, you would give him a fish. so if you, who are sinful, know how to give your children good gifts, how much more so does your Father in heaven, who is perfect, know how to give great gifts to His children!
great gifts to His children. i am receiving them this week. some of them i asked for…time with just our family, the mountains, great weather, yoga, time alone. some of them are just being lavished on as extras…a wonderful place to stay, wild raspberries on the side of our trail yesterday, the name of our trail being “oh-be-joyful”…no kidding!, wildflowers, exceptionally great weather, crazy cool yoga studio, most amazing rainbow ever, ben riding piggy back on taido as he biked into town with cole, so he wouldn’t miss the trip to town during simon’s nap, mp being super grateful for her special birthday day. crazy great.
