alrighty, i'll mention my forays into biking precisely because no one should be motivated to do what i did. i did get my bike at age 6 for christmas, just as i should. and it was a vision in its schwinn-ness- sparkle purple body with streamers gracefully falling out of the handlebars. a white banana seat like the aforementioned clancy. with a little basket with a daisy on it. and it sat. in the garage. for 2 yrs. because it just looked so darn big and i couldn't reach the pedals even on the lowest seat setting (imagine that with my wealth of height at age 6).

we bought cole a bike for his 5th christmas. the kind without a kickstand and acoutrements other than training wheels. and he rides it. with the wobbly training wheels that don't quite reach the ground anymore. but our street is unsafe (its the cut-thru to the indian hills kroger) so he gets discouraged. and when he wrecks, its the bike's fault- never an operator error. i wish i could encourage him more but i'm terrified of having the kids play on our street. and my cole is clumsy like mr. ben-- so i'm with alison on adding wheels and an additional frame to the mix. we've already had stitches, broken bones (plural)...

Bikes, Bikes, Bikes...I love, love love em!! Tamara Penrod & I used to bike the river trail, boy could she kick my butt! That girl can ride! Rebecca & I got completely & utterly soaked after getting caught in a downpour while biking...except for the big lightening bullseyes on our heads it WAS GREAT!! Why do we always think we can "out ride" the rain? Makes no sense at all! My son discovered mountain biking in highschool...when he really needed something to occupy his mind & give him an outlet for way to much energy! Memories? Oh my...could I go on... My purple, bannana seat bike felt like a great friend who was always ready to wisk me away to adventure, freedom and independence w/the promise of bringing me home again.
