So usually I am worried about chemicals on my food, but this article about tomatoes reminded me that the greater issues surrounding my produce selections are the ones that involve human beings. Here’s a quote from this article that I think will stay with me a while.
Workers who pick the food we eat can’t afford to feed themselves.

Shell
I have a friend here that worked in a similar situation in (think it was Georgia.)
He said they got paid by the pound, and they would take out all the bad ones from the weight (if they got smashed in the buckets etc.) They’d work all day for $10 or less, and if they were sick or hurt of course they didn’t get anything.
His family moved to Arkansas because they couldn’t take it anymore and had promises of better wages and pay. Great article.
